An extreme mix of bands celebrated the end of the calendar year at the Evelyn Hotel with a huge night of intensity on multiple fronts. Opening with Alloxylon‘s discordant and ear-piercing take on black metal, the chaos only grew with Occult Blood spewing pure noise and switching drummers. The tone shifted with Class Traitor and their slow marching sludge that crushes slowly like a hydraulic press, before Burn in Hell provided a masterclass of swaggering modern death metal. Tumour got the crowd moving with their breakdown-infused death metal before Algor Mortis turned up the crowd another notch with some stupidly heavy beatdown-infused death metal. Finally, ISUA capped out the night with their extreme sludge doom sound that is unmatched in the Australian music scene.
